WORLD'S LARGEST ERASER WEIGHS 2.2 KILOGRAMS

The Radar S-10000 measures 276 x 141 x 43 mm and weighs over 2.2 kilograms (5 pounds), making it probably the world’s largest commercially available eraser.

Japanese eraser-maker Seed, one of the oldest companies in the business, was founded in 1915. Its most popular product line, Radar erasers, was launched in 1968 and quickly became a favorite in the Japanese market. Its smooth texture and flawless erasing performance made the Radar a commercial success, despite its premium price range of ¥20 – 50, at a time when ¥10 erasers were the norm. The Radar brand has been going strong ever since, with erasers of various shapes and sizes, including this enormous 2,285-gram slab priced at ¥13,200 yen (USD$100).

The Radar S-10000 is probably the largest in the world. Weighing a whopping 2,285 grams, it is 200 times heavier than the standard Radar S-60 eraser. However, they are both made from exactly the same material, so their erasing performance is exactly the same.

Why make such a large eraser? After all, it is not as if anyone actually needs such a product. According to a source in Seed’s product development department, it all started as an idea for an original giveaway contest. Seed already had two large eraser models – the S-1000 (130 x 66 x 27 mm) and the S-JUMBO (160 x 75 x 27 mm), but they decided to make something even bigger.

The very first Radar S-10000 was supposed to be a one-off prize for the company’s annual “Eraser Quick Eraser Contest” held at its flagship store. However, the prize was so popular with fans that Seed decided to turn it into a commercially available product.

Making such a large slab has its challenges, because heating the material in such a thick layer is a little tricky, but Seed made it work. The company guarantees that the S-10000 is just as efficient as its smaller Radar products.

The S-10000 eraser has been on sale for a while, but it recently went viral in Japan, after someone posted pictures of it on Twitter. The company actually thanked him for raising awareness about the product.

So, if you make a lot of mistakes and are interested in owning a 2.2 kg eraser, the S-10000 is available online.
