SHY BOY FAINTS IN THE COMPANY OF HUNDREDS OF GIRLS
Many young people experience some degree of anxiety when interacting with or even being close to members of the opposite sex, but in a few people, this feeling is so overwhelming that they simply pass out.
Take, for example, Manish Shankar Prasad, a shy 17-year-old boy at Allama Iqbal boys’ high school in Bihar Sharif. Manish was supposed to take an important mathematics test at the end of last month. Unfortunately, he never got the opportunity to do so, because he lost consciousness after finding himself surrounded by about 500 girls in the exam hall.
“He was alone with some 500 girls at the exam center, which caused him to pass out and work up a fever,” Prasad’s aunt said, adding that the boy was swiftly rushed to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.
Manish’s father later told India TV that the teen boy regained consciousness hours after passing out but was so shaken up by the experience of being the only boy in a room full of girls that he could hardly speak, when asked what had caused him to faint.
It is unclear how Manish wound up in a room full of girls for his math exam, but authorities believe that he must have accidentally written his gender as “female” on the application form. But, the mistake may have not been his. Still, he would have had time to rectify it if he had looked carefully at the gender line on his test admission card.
It has yet to be determined if Manish suffers from gynophobia, the irrational fear of women, or if he is just incredibly shy.
One thing is for sure: he will need some time to recover after the incident. On the following week, he was still too weak to take a make-up exam.
