THIEVES STEAL 220 SNEAKERS, ALL FOR THE RIGHT FOOT!

A trio of Peruvian thieves managed to make international news headlines after pulling off one of the dumbest robberies in history – 220 sneakers from various brands, all for the right foot.

The hilarious crime occurred at a sporting goods store in central Peru. At around 3:30 am, three men managed to cut the padlocks at the back of the store and steal three large shipping crates filled with sneaker boxes from various brands.

What the thieves did not realize was that all the 220 shoe boxes they stole only contained sneakers for the right foot, because the owner had specially prepared the three crates for a footwear display at a local sporting goods fair.

Authorities suspect that the thieves have hidden the stolen property, since there is no way that they can sell only right sneakers on the black market.

We have carried out an inspection at the scene, and the peculiar thing about this theft is that only right-foot sneakers were stolen,” Eduan Díaz, head of the Junín police region, said, adding that it is just a matter of time before the thieves are identified, since they were caught on security cameras in the area and left their fingerprints at the crime scene.

Even with the left sneakers still in his possession, the owner of the store estimates losses of around USD$13,000, unless the 220 stolen sneakers are recovered, because, just like the thieves, he cannot sell the sneakers individually.

The boss could have a half-price sale!” one Twitter user joked.

Another suggested, “Maybe both sides should negotiate with each other.”

Another one wondered if the robbers could find a market among people who were missing their left legs, and the store owner could do the same among those without right legs.

The sneaker store has only been open for a few months, but it is one of several to be burglarized recently. In mid-April, the National Police of Peru captured a thief who had made off with six sacks full of sneakers from a shoe store in Ica, a city in southern Peru.
