METAL CHICKEN BALL UPSETS INTERNET
The Chicken Orb is a sphere made of wire that allows a chicken to move around and forage freely while preventing it from getting into flower beds and other places where it is not supposed to go.
The Chicken Orb has been around for at least a couple of years, but it only recently began getting attention after photos and videos of it in action started going viral online.
The confusion comes from the misconception that the metallic wire ball is actually a sort of chicken armor, designed to provide protection from predators while still allowing the chicken the freedom to forage and move around in peace.
That mistaken idea got the debate going among chicken owners, many of whom criticized the device as useless, since it only acted as attractive, convenient “food packaging” for birds of prey and did nothing to stop ground predators like foxes or ferrets.
“This is a terrible idea. It would most likely cause a chicken a lot of panic,” one Reddit user wrote.
“It is like a “Happy Meal” lunch box for coyotes and bears. Please don’t use it,” someone else commented.
Of course, the Chicken Orb was never designed as a piece of animal armor. If you check the manufacturer’s FAQ page, it clearly state that it is meant to stop chickens from wandering into flower beds or other spaces they are not allowed in, while otherwise permitting them to move around.
They are perfect for medium-sized, pampered pet chickens to allow them to roam the backyard or to take them on adventures beyond the backyard boundaries. Chicken Orb is a modern tool for urban farmers to take control over when, where, and how their pets forage.
Unfortunately, many Netizens have not read the Chicken Orb manual and have become really upset over what they see as chicken abuse. A lot of people still criticize the invention as dangerous for the birds, since it puts them at risk of breaking their legs or even their necks if they roll onto uneven surfaces.
“Looks like unnecessary torture for the sake of your entertainment,” one person said.
“This seems cruel and dangerous. If this were a successful item, there would be many videos of Chicken Orbs. I can only find a few from the manufacturer,” someone else complained.
It is unclear how popular the Chicken Orb is with chicken owners, but it has definitely been getting a lot of free publicity lately.
