INFLUENCER SHAMED FOR WEARING UN-CHIC CHICK HAT
Filipino Internet influencer, Abby Domer Salle, has come under fire for animal cruelty after being spotted on the streets of Manila wearing a live chick in a small metal cage on her head.
Inspired by Japanese Kawaii Culture, the so-called “duckling fashion” has become very popular in Southeast Asia in the last few years. The exact origins of this fashion trend are unclear, but it has been linked to anime characters.
There are many variations of this trend all over the world, but in its simplest form, a stylish person wears a decorative plastic or plush baby duck on her (or his!) head.
However, one Filipino influencer recently took this unusual fashion trend to an all-new level of weirdness by caging a live chick and wearing it in public as a bizarre hat.
Photos and videos of Abby Domer Salle, a young Filipino social media personality, walking around Manila with a days-old yellow chick on her head have gone viral online for a couple of days now, sparking the outrage of animal rights supporters all over the world.
Although Abby probably thought she was just pushing the limits of fashion creativity with this stunt, she ended up starting a debate about ethics for influencers.
“That is animal cruelty; the chick looks stressed,” one person commented.
“I hope the chick is still alive,” someone else wrote.
Abby Domer Salle is a digital creator with over 53,000 fans on TikTok and 28,000 fans on Facebook.
The Internet clearly has no issue with chicken hats, per se. If you want to look stupid and wear a chicken on your head, please go right ahead.
Just make sure that it is not a real one. That kind of un-chic chapeau crosses the ethical line and rightfully should bring shame to Abby and any other influencer who wears it. FYI, the same rule applies to live ducks and puppies and kittens, too.
