ART SECURITY GUARD TRIES TO EAT SOME OF THE ART

Banksy™ Goldfish - GrossDomesticProductA rather bizarre act of vandalism was recently reported at an art exhibition in Moscow, where a security guard damaged an art work by trying to eat it. trying to eat it.

The incident occurred at the To Find Banksy exhibition, a collection of replica Banksy works, in Moscow's VDNKh Permanent Exhibition Center. A gallery guard took vandalism to a new extreme by damaging and then attempting to eat a fake goldfish pulled from the replica of Banksy's "Goldfish Bowl."

A thought-provoking concept, perhaps, and one that caught the eye of the security guard on duty. Only instead of admiring it from a distance and doing his job, the guy vandalized the very thing he was being paid to protect.

In a video on Russian social media, the intrigued guard can be seen approaching “Goldfish Bowl” and curiously pulling on the two fish. At one point, he holds the painting of the open sea with one hand and pulls on the attached goldfish with his other hand until it comes off.

He then smells the fish, which we assume is fake, and tries to take a bite of it.

When organizers noticed that the art work had been damaged, they checked the security cameras and were shocked to see the security guard doing the very thing he was paid to prevent.

When confronted about his behavior, the man simply shrugged and said that he had had had a “tough night” with very little sleep and that he did not realize what he was doing when he harmed the art piece.

The man has been suspended from his job, and “Goldfish Bowl” was restored after a few days.

Replicas of Banksy's work are being displayed in Russia, despite the artist's political objections. Following Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Banksy has raised awareness and funds for the Ukrainian people, but a recent charity auction of his works was targeted for cyber attacks from Russian IP addresses.

Maybe the security guard really worked for Putin’s secret police and was ordered to eat Banksy’s art. That explanation makes as much sense as the guard’s explanation does!
