ARE PEOPLE, TOO!
There are strollers available that let you take your dogs, cats, fish, and even chickens out for a nice walk. But what about your plants? We live in a thoroughly PC world now, so what about a plant’s equal right to explore that world and to get some fresh air?
Some people read, play music, and/or talk to their plants to keep them healthy and happy. But, now, a concerned college student has designed a plant stroller that lets you take your home vegetation on walks outside.
Are you going to look a little weird taking your plant for a walk down the sidewalk? Sure, but that is not the point. Taking your plant for a walk will be beneficial to both you and your leafy buddy. Whatever gets both of you outside and into the sun and fresh air has to be good for you both. Never mind what others—who are not so sensitive and thoughtful as you are—think.
The plant stroller was designed by a Kingston University graduate named Alice Kim, who made it as a project while at college in London.
This unique project was intended to encourage society to treat plants the same as it treats human babies and to remind us all about how much care and attention plants really need to survive.
And, as if this one contribution to the equality of the plant and animal kingdoms were not enough, Alice has given us another remarkable concept: a portable, artificial plant womb.
Alice has designed a wearable, transparent plastic vest that allows you to carry your baby plants in front on your stomach like a mother carrying an unborn child. The maternity vests are made from a PVC material that allows all passers-by to see your young seedling growing, just like an unborn baby, and to admire your sensitivity to the needs of plants.
As Alice says, "Plants share a very similar birth and growth process to humans, but we do not appreciate much of what they give us." So, she hopes that these two innovations will help to balance the respect equation between our two kingdoms.
And, the elegance of this invention syncs nicely with the previous one. After the plant outgrows the maternity vest, the value of the plant stroller becomes clear.
Your growing plant baby gets transferred from the vest to the stroller, and you two can take walks around the town together, like a real family.
Reactions to the unique product designs are split, with one commenter saying, "Some people talk to plants, some people hug trees. Millions of people enjoy them. Well done to this student for upsetting anyone with no sense of humor."
Unfortunately, the plant stroller and plant maternity vest are not for sale anywhere yet; they are currently only school project prototypes. But we smell a million-dollar opportunity here, for some eager, alert entrepreneur out there. As animal lovers do not hesitate to spend money on their fur babies, plant lovers will surely want to take care of their leaf babies, too. Hint, hint.
